Running a SSRS report in a report viewer control in .net

Do I need the report server running in order view a SSRS report in a report viewer control? I've created my report in .net and it works great when I'm viewing it in visual studio, but can I run it my web app without the report server.
The ReportViewer supports local mode where the report definition is distributed with the application and the application feeds the report with data. In local mode, the Report Server is not needed. More details here.sql

RTF Control

Hi,
Is there an RTFcontrol available for Reporting Services 2005 that will:
1. Allow selected text in the control to be Bolded?
2. Allow even justification of text on both left and right edges?
For Access, there is a control from FMS Inc that does that.
I need such a control to be able to move reports to RS.

1. I need to have paragraphs of text in a control that I can format as in a
word processor. The text would come from a database column, with each
product ID having it's own text.
2. I need to be able to make sume words Bold or Italic.
3. I also need the ability to have superscripts, since some of the text will
be used as footnotes.
4. I also need to fully justify the text so that both left and right edges
are even, no jagged right edge.
In Access, I do this with a third-party control called Total Access Memo
from FMSInc. You can see a description of that product at fmsinc.com. I
need its features.
With that product, you enter text in their word-processing-like editor, and
it stores the text in the database column with RTF coding. This formatted
text is then available for reports.

Please note that such formatting can be done in Crystal Reports.
That is in fact why I am posting this question.
Client wants to replace Crystal Reports with SQL Reporting Services. They
already have reports formatted as above in Crystak
So I have to be able to duplicate this RTF feature of Crystal. It's an
inherent requirement for a conversion to Reporting Services.
